SOCIAL STUDIES VISION STATEMENT
Social Studies is the integrated study of the social sciences to prepare young people to become responsible citizens. As a Catholic School we need to prepare young people to build the values of awareness, understanding and appreciation of our own national identity and world cultures through out history. As Catholic educators we need to teach the skills that enable students to have a social understanding of social aspects of the human conditions and how it has evolved overtime.
SOCIAL STUDIES PROGRAM STANDARDS
I. ACQUIRING AND PROVIDING INFORMATION
- The students will be able to use map and globe skills.
- The students will be able to develop the skills to understand charts, graphs, diagrams, time lines, and cartoons.
- The students will be able to learn Social Studies vocabulary and comprehend Social Studies information through speaking, listening, study skills, and using reference skills.
II. ORGANIZING AND USING INFORMATION
- The students will develop the skills to be able to write and think through problems in Social Studies and daily lives.
III. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS
- The students will be able to develop the necessary skills to learn individual and with a group.
IV. CITIZENSHIP
- The students will be able to have the skills and knowledge of social issues, American Beliefs and values and the seven standards of citizenship.
V. LIFE SKILLS
- The students will be able to safety rules in society and how to use everyday skills to develop into Christian responsible adults.
